Microneedling
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also referred to as collagen induction therapy, involves using super-fine needles to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of the skin. These wounds are called micro-injuries, and the micro-injuries that we create with Microneedling stimulate the body’s innate wound-healing processes. The idea is to create a controlled injury, therefore forcing the body to respond by producing more collagen in the treated area. The needles create micro holes without damaging the epidermis. Histological findings of skin tissue that was micro-needled with 0.5 to 1.5mm long needles revealed that they stimulated massive growth of elastin and collagen fibers and Neovascularization. The procedure is therefore is called “percutaneous collagen induction therapy”.

How Does The Process of a Microneedling Work?
Here's how the process typically works:
Preparation: The skin is cleansed, and a numbing cream may be applied to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.
Microneedling treatment: A specialized device with small needles is gently rolled or stamped over the stretch mark-affected area. The tiny needles create tiny punctures in the skin, which triggers the body's natural healing response.
Collagen stimulation: The controlled micro-injuries caused by microneedling stimulate the production of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. These components contribute to improved skin elasticity and texture.
Topical application: After the microneedling treatment, a soothing serum or other topical treatment may be applied to the skin to enhance healing and hydration.
Recovery and aftercare: Following the procedure, the skin may appear slightly red or irritated, similar to a mild sunburn. It is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your dermatologist or skincare professional, which may include gentle cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection.
How Does Microneedling Tighten Skin?
During the skin’s healing process, your body produces fresh collagen to replace the damaged collagen, which rejuvenates your skin by increasing your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. This results in an overall improvement in the texture and tightness of your skin and removing the wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks that can keep you looking young as you age.
How Many Microneedling Sessions Does It Take To See Tightened Skin?
The number of treatments required varies based on two things, the first being the results you want to achieve, and the second being which part of the body treatment is being performed on. Just a few sessions of Microneedling will noticeably reduce fine lines, crow’s feet, and deep wrinkles on the forehead. For most wrinkles or stretch marks on the body, depending on the severity, you may need 4 to 8 Microneedling treatments to achieve optimal skin-tightening results.

Stretch marks can result of many conditions such as pregnancy, childhood growth spurts, weight fluctuation, and genetic predisposition. Although results can vary from person to person, When it comes to stretch marks, microneedling stimulates collagen production and improve the overall texture and appearance of the affected skin. Microneedling often time leads to quite drastic improvements.
Stretch marks are tears to the connective tissue of the skin. When you microneedle your stretch marks, it helps to promote regeneration of the skin covering those tears in connective tisue of your skin and helps restore the contours of your skin’s surface.
IIt is worth noting that the effectiveness of microneedling for stretch marks can vary from person to person depending on factors such as the age, depth, and severity of the stretch marks, as well as individual skin characteristics. Multiple microneedling sessions are usually required to achieve noticeable results, and improvement may be gradual over time.

Microneedling for dark spots
Hyperpigmentation can be caused by hormonal changes, exposure to the sun, aging or medication. There are ways in which these dark spots can be made to fade with time and even disappear completely. Micro needling is the most effective of all the procedures used to treat pigmentation.
Micro needling is called the collagen induction therapy because the small injuries made to the skin cause surface bleeding which compels the body to start its healing process. The old layer of skin starts becoming dry and in a week or so peels off. Over a period of 10 to 14 days, new collagen is formed to cover up the injuries. This new layer of skin is free from any kind of spots or marks.
Dark spots of both the epidermis and the dermis layers of the skin can be reduced with the help of micro needling. The micro needling procedure requires 4 to 6 sessions with a gap of 4 to 8 weeks between each session. The skin starts responding after the first session itself and at the end of the whole procedure, you get rejuvenated, firm and spot-free skin.
WHAT TO DO AFTER MICRONEEDLING PROCEDURE
Once you have had the procedure done, do the following
1) DO NOT EXPOSE YOURSELF TO THE SUN
After you have undergone your Microneedling procedure, stay out of the sun and do not apply any sunscreen. Post procedure, the skin channels are completely open, and any toxins contained in topical applicants may be harmful to you.
2) DO NOT USE ANY “ACTIVE INGREDIENT” SKIN PRODUCTS
Post procedure, avoid any skin care product that has active ingredients. These commonly include things like Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, Retinol and other similar agents. The skin will be highly sensitive and these products will only irritate it further.
3) USE COLLAGEN STIMULATING PEPTIDES
As Microneedling serves to stimulate the production of collagen, the skin needs higher amounts of collagen than normal to recover optimally. Collagen Stimulating Peptides help in stimulation of collagen production.
4) AVOID THE USE OF MAKEUP AFTER TREATMENT
It is recommended that you let your skin “breathe” and recover for 24 hours after the procedure. The skin channels are open, and using a makeup can penetrate the pores, especially if they are very thin, causing further irritation. Using a makeup that has been used before can contaminate the skin and, consequently, lead to infections. Wait 24 to 48 hours before you apply face makeup to give your skin the necessary recovery time.
5) USE A COOLING FACE MASK
After you have undergone Microneedling, you may experience some skin inflammation or redness. Using a cooling mask will help reduce the inflammation or redness of the skin, giving you more comfort.
6) USE AN ANTIOXIDANT SERUM
Antioxidant serums have properties that assist in healing the skin. Serums assist in soothing the skin and further reduce irritation.
7) AVOID SWEATING
As you sweat the pores of your skin will reopen, and the bacteria on your skin may enter the skin punctures leading to a either an inflammatory reaction or infection.
8) DRINK WATER
It is important to stay hydrated before and after your procedure to help your skin heal and rejuvenate faster.
